De Rustica’s first Extra Virgin Olive Oils (“EVOO’s”) were produced in 2012. Since 2014 our single cultivar oils have received growing recognition with multiple awards in numerous local and international competitions.

• In 2018 De Rustica was recognized as the Southern Hemisphere’s top olive oil producer.

• In 2023 our single cultivar Estate Collection Coratina won global acclaim at the International EVOOLEUM competition in Spain, perhaps the pinnacle of its achievements, as it garnered an impressive 97-point rating out of 100 crowning it best in the world that year.

• It shone once again, winning Gold at the 2024 New York International Olive Oil competition, as did our Estate Range Medium and Estate Collection Favalosa at the 2024 Dubai Olive oil competition.

• At the 2024 annual SA Olive competition De Rustica once again received a full house of five gold awards, thereby extending our leading tradition of excellence for over a decade.

Our mission is not just to farm but to improve and restore the land, the surrounding veld, and the mountains we call home. From soil health and water management to veld preservation, erosion control, alien species removal, and sustainable grazing and crop selection, we continuously refine our approach.

At De Rustica we’re all about building and supporting our community. The Estate came about in part due to the demise of the ostrich industry, when numerous small and medium sized Ostrich farms in the Oudemuragie valley became unviable.

Widespread unemployment and alcoholism plagued the local community in a spiral of depression and poverty. The consolidation of farms and establishment of an olive estate with a sheep and crop farming operation, provided a beacon of hope.

It offered employment and career opportunities to many members of the local community, and today, work is becoming available for second generation employees.

TEAM building is a crucial aspect of our management philosophy. We encourage cooperation at every level, and are proud to support our employees and youth who participate and excel in regional sports events.
